How Does Curonix Freedom PNS Work?

The Curonix Freedom® Peripheral Nerve Stimulator System sends electrical stimulation to a specific peripheral nerve to help interrupt pain signals. It is intended for selected adults with severe, intractable chronic pain of peripheral nerve origin. A physician assessment and a trial come before a permanent implant.

Why the nerve matters

Peripheral nerves extend throughout the body. Injury, trauma, or surgery can affect them and contribute to pain that lasts longer than three months. Burning, tingling, stabbing, numbness, aching, or throbbing may be part of the experience. These symptoms can have other causes too; an evaluation identifies what is driving your pain.

System components

  1. An implanted electrode array and connected receiver deliver stimulation near the target nerve.
  2. An external transmitter powers an antenna, which sends power and signals to the implanted stimulator.
  3. A wearable accessory holds the transmitter assembly over clothing. The fit and style depend on the treatment location.

Where it fits in a treatment plan

Freedom PNS is cleared for use in the U.S. The therapy is non-drug and non-opioid, and placement is minimally invasive and typically outpatient. It may be considered after other options have not provided enough relief. It can also be part of a broader pain-management plan; do not change medication without your clinician.

What would useful relief mean for you?

Think about an activity that pain makes difficult, such as walking or sitting for a meal. You can use that goal to help assess relief and function during the trial. Results vary, and pain may continue after implantation.
